A Study of the Finger Print Patterns of Korean Male and Female

Abstract
In a strict sense, dermatoglyphic studies are concerned with the- epidermal ridges which form systems of lines, parallel in small fields, on the surface of the stratum corneum of the palm, sole and fingerfip. Among these the fingertips has been more extensively studied than any other areas, however, non of them Koreans.
In this papar anthers aimed to classify the fingertip _patterns of 412 Korean males and females as a guidance of medical uses, and terminology used here has been established by Ciba symposium in June 1967 as follows.
The pattern type depends upon the number of trivadii present. On the fingertips, the presence of a triradii implies the presence of a loop or, in the limiting case, a tented arch. A curved system of lines, without true pattern, is termed an arch and signified by the letter A. A variant of loop pattern, where the core is formed by the end of one of the radiant lines of a triradius, has been termed tented arch.
A single loop with a core which is directed towards the ulnar side of the finger is called -an ulnar loop and is signified by the letter Lu. The corresponding triradius is located on the radial side of the finger. If the loop core is directed towards the radial side it can be signified by L= for radial loop; in this case the corresponding triradius is on the ulnar side of the finger.
When there are twe clearly distinguishable loops and two triradii present on a fingertip, the pattern is termed a double loop. The Pattern canb be classified as a subgroup of whorls and can be signified by W. If a double loop, whose cores forms a spiral (WS) is called a spiral whorl.
More over, Patterns on fingers with more than two triradii can be separated into their components for description though they fall into the broad class of whorls, e.g. Fig.6 contains a whorl and a loop. According to these points of view following data were obtained.
The analysis of finger-prints type of Korean men and women was committed through out 228 men and 184 women, 412 totally, and the results were as follows.
1. The finger-prints type of men and women was similar, and so was it in frequency.
2. The most frequent type was ulnar loop and spiral whorl in men and wornen respectivily.
3. The ulnar loop type which is most frequent in men was found in the left small finger
mostly, and the Spiral whorl type in wormen was found in the forth finger of right hand mostly.
4. The finger-prints type of left and right were appeared as symmetry. It is Concluded that the exact explanation of the finger-prints type of Korean men and women and its frequency in each finger is thought to be useful as a statistic reference.
